However, dysbiosis can occur when an overabundance of potentially harmful organisms prevails. Therefore, the health of the GI tract relies on balanced microbiota. Probiotics contribute to balance by positively influencing the intestinal environment via pH balance, microorganism diversity and immune signaling.
